I
A bell ringing in an empty sky
Bounding and further bounding
Until only
A frozen echo,
Solitary and still,
Stiller than
The flaming sun
Thrilling the sky in waves
Of aureate light.
In the magnitude of noon
Edges tremble and dissolve
Behind closed eyes
II
The ocean within
A grain of sand
Unrolls.
The waves hidden within it
Wash the shore
Of pure existence
That mental voyagers everywhere
Travel upon.
Never does this oceanic journey end.
III
The last rays of the sun
Strike the face
Of a sundial.
The long shadow of time,
Having told the hours,
Retires into the immeasurable.
Now as darkness falls
Upon its face,
The sundial ceases to function
As if time did not
exist.
IV
A cardinal perches at the end
Of a branch
Suddenly it springs
With a body of fire
Into the sky.
Subtle as the air,
Only its vision remains solid there.
Inside vast emptiness
It is guided
By instincts born in the sky.
